Swimming in the Baltic Sea, a demanding bike course, and a finish line on the City Beach. Everything that makes triathlon in Gdynia so special is back. And on top of that, the World Cup final will be shown on the beach.
The race will begin on Sunday, 19 July, at 7:45 a.m., when the first athletes competing in the 5150 Triathlon Series distance enter the water. The start will take place from the City Beach. From exactly the same location, but at 10:00 a.m., the IRONMAN 70.3 distance will start. Athletes racing the Olympic distance will cover 1.5 kilometres, while those competing in the “half distance” will swim 400 metres more.
Both swim courses finish at the top of Gdynia’s Southern Pier. This is where athletes will exit the water and, after passing through the first transition zone, T1, head out onto the bike courses. The 5150 Triathlon Series athletes will be the first to start the bike leg. They will cover 40 kilometres, first riding 20 kilometres to Koleczkowo, where the turnaround point will be located, before returning to Gdynia along the same route.
Athletes competing in Enea IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia will fight for the best possible positions on the 90-kilometre bike course. Up to Koleczkowo, the route follows the same course as the Olympic distance. After that, the athletes will turn towards Kielno and Czeczewo. The course will then lead through Szemud and Przetoczyno. After Sopieszyno, athletes will make a sharp right turn towards Nowy Dwór Wejherowski and Koleczkowo. From there, they will return to the opening section of the course, already familiar to them, and ride it in the opposite direction.
The final stage of the triathlon race is the run. The Gdynia course has been set along the city streets. It will start on the Southern Pier, then continue through Kościuszko Square towards Świętojańska Street, where athletes will turn left. They will run along almost the full length of one of Gdynia’s most important streets before turning left again onto Piłsudskiego Avenue. This is one of the most spectacular sections of the race. Athletes will run downhill towards the sea, with an amazing view of the Bay of Gdańsk ahead of them. The final section of the run loop leads along the Seaside Boulevard, where athletes can feel the fresh sea breeze and the unique atmosphere of Gdynia. Athletes competing in the Olympic distance will complete two run loops, while Enea IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia athletes will run four loops.
The run course during the triathlon races in Gdynia will also be a challenge for spectators. Everyone can take part in a city game, which will involve collecting stamps on a special map. The stamps will be available from volunteers at selected cheering points. All you need to do is pick up the map from the Info Point in the triathlon village, and then follow the marked route. Everyone who collects all the stamps will receive a set of gifts.
It is worth joining the game and visiting all cheering points, as there will be plenty of attractions along the way. At Kościuszko Square, the Koleczkowianie Kashubian Regional Ensemble will perform live music and singing. Colourful costumes, folk instruments, and traditional dances will create a unique folk atmosphere. The next cheering point will be located near the junction of Świętojańska Street and Piłsudskiego Avenue. This one will offer a completely different experience. Rock beats on drums will be delivered by Damian Krawczyk, former drummer of Sweet Noise. It will be powerful and rhythmic, with some of the best-known rock hits played by DJ and host Pedro.
After such a powerful boost, athletes will have no problem reaching the next cheering point, hosted by the Domofonia collective. It is a DJ and rapper duo, with a true freestyle master on the mic. A live drummer will also perform there. His rhythm will then be picked up by the drummers at the final cheering point. The duo of Maciej Mustafa Giżejewski and Łukasz Jasiak is among the very best in Poland. The trance-like rhythm of bongos will lead athletes all the way to the finish line on the beach.
At the end of Enea IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia, the finish line area will turn into a Fan Beach. On 19 July at 8:30 p.m., we invite everyone to watch the FIFA World Cup final together. The match will start at 9:00 p.m. Entry is free, not only for race participants.
